Non contact voltage detectors
Apart from multimeters or clamp meters, the only other essential piece of toolkit is a voltage detector. These are either of contact or non-contact kind with the latter having several distinct advantages. No physical contact (apart with maybe a plastic part of the case) with the tested wire, surface or object as well as the ability to trace hidden wires (to a certain depth) and easy finding of wire breaks are some of the most prominent ones.
Metrel offers two models of non-contact voltage detectors, the only distinction between them being a vibrating indicator and an enlarged frequency range of tested voltages that one of them has.
